Math Information & Expectations

Materials

Please be prepared for class every day to ensure that we make the best use of our time together.

  • spiral notebook with folder
  • sharpened pencils
  • erasers
  • 2  - 4 highlighters (different colors)
  • colored pens/markers (other than blue or black)
  • 2 thin dry erase markers
  • small post-it notes
  • glue, tape, scissors
  • earbuds

Homework

Independent math practice is an essential component to your success as a mathematician. Homework will be assigned almost every night. ALL WORK MUST BE SHOWN FOR CREDIT. Late homework will only be accepted due to an absence from school. If you are absent, I expect that you will do your best to complete the assignment. Assignments will be graded for effort on the following scale:

  • 3 points = Every problem is completed or there is work shown for every problem (if you have difficulty arriving at an answer).
  • 2 points = A few problems are not completed or do not have work shown.
  • 1 points = Half or less than half of the problems are not completed or do not have work shown.
  • 0 points = Homework not completed (or is not brought to class).

Please note: Students should not spend more than 40 minutes on any homework assignment. At 40 minutes, a parent/guardian may choose to sign the assignment saying that their child worked on it for 40 minutes and the student will receive full credit. Spending that much time on a homework assignment is a sign that the student doesn't understand the material and may be getting frustrated. Most homework assignments should take about 15 minutes.

Grading Policy

Students will be assessed in the following ways:

  • classwork & homework    10%

  • quizzes & small projects 50%

  • tests and large projects 40%

Students and parents/guardians should regularly check Genesis to monitor progress.

Extra Credit

  • Academic bonus questions will occasionally be given on assignments. The points from these bonus questions will be applied to the assignment for up to the total points for the assignment.

  • Extra credit assignments will not be given.

Extra Help

  • Mrs. Mauri is available for extra help by appointment. Students should come to extra help sessions prepared with specific questions.
